Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident

After the in-flight explosion that destroyed the Space Shuttle Challenger, President Ronald Reagan appointed the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident. Its mission was to investigate the cause of the disaster and recommend means to avoid future disasters.Chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State William Rogers, co-chaired by the first astronaut to land on the moon, Neil Armstrong, it was made up of a mixture of engineers, government and industry executives, lawyers, test pilots and astronauts, none associated with the mission.
