Citizen journalism refers to journalism produced by independent citizens rather than those associated with large media organizations. In recent times, with the rise of "Web 2.0" and "social media", the idea of citizens doing reporting has been pushed by some online organizations and groups: Assignment Zero, NowPublic and News Trust, which have set themselves up as outlets for citizens to publish articles, news reports, and evaluate news coverage.
