Operation Iraqi Freedom was the public designation for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, by the U.S. and its allies. It was actually the second term issued; the original one was Operation Iraqi Liberation, which lasted until the unfortunate connotations of its abbreviation were noticed.

The internal code name, which was a Special Access Program (SAP) designation, used for its planning was POLO STEP.
